Running on a Friday Night

Quite enjoy running on a Friday night before a couple of beers and a meal down at the pub.

Knocked another 20 seconds off my last Friday’s 2 mile time tonight without any real effort and I’m getting better at pacing myself up the large hill just after the half-way mark.

Tonight my splits were:

2 Miles -Total time:  18:43

Mile 1: 09:33
Mile 2: 09:10

Overall I’m happy with that and the numb feet didn’t return although my calves are aching a bit now.

Will see how I feel on Sunday morning and maybe give myself another run out before the all important last game of the football season where hopefully Blackpool will make the play offs!

Bad Run Tonight

Well, I guess that it was bound to happen sooner or later… I had my first bad run tonight.

After such a great time out running on Friday I decided to do a three miler tonight… I managed 2.75 after coming down with completely numb feet(!) just after 2 miles. I did notice that my calves felt tight as soon as I’d set off – I’m assuming that has something to do with it. I tried stopping and letting my feet recover but the numbness returned within a minute of me running.

I plan on going for a run with the lads from work tomorrow night (in a mostly flat area) so I’ll see if the there’s any repeat.

Anyway here are my splits and the low-down:

Distance: 2.75 miles

Elevation Gain: 108 ft
Elevation Loss: 112 ft

Just got in after another 2 mile run – it’s my third so far this week and the first I’ve not had to walk parts of it.

I think my main problem was setting off too quickly.

Here’s a breakdown of the three runs.

19th April – 2 miles in 20:05
1st Mile: 09:29
2nd Mile: 10:35

21st April – 2 miles in 19:21
1st Mile: 09:21
2nd Mile: 10:00

22nd April – 2 miles in 19:01
1st Mile: 09:41
2nd Mile: 09:20

I’m happy with the progress I’ve made this week. Next week I’m going to attempt to step up the mileage – starting with 2.5 miles and set my Garmin Forerunner to beep when I run quicker than 9 minute miles as I always seem to have a tendency to want to run quicker than my stamina is capable of. At this stage I feel that I need to be running and completing the distance.

Here We Go…

This would be my first post so I’ll give a summary of where I’m at and what I want to be able to achieve.

To put it simply I’ve gotten lazy over the past 4 years when previously I was fit and actively running 5/6 times a week. At the moment the goal is to just enjoy running as I always used to.

I’ve put on 30lbs in these lazy years and I’m hoping the running will knock that down a bit! So far I’ve been going just over a week and am just managing to do a 2 mile run with a hill in the middle – not great but it’s a start.

I’ll be writing here to log my progress and write about any issues that come up along the way. Who knows?  Maybe it will inspire somebody one day…
