Bad Hip and Chest Infections

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Here’s a bit of an update as these pages have remained pretty silent since the 9th!

After my hip issues last week I decided to take a couple of days off. This increased to five days yesterday after a full blown chest infection decided to hit me and running and uncontrollable coughing don’t really mix well. So on Tuesday night with my lungs feeling better, although still with ‘a bit of a cough’ I decided to try a three miler to get myself back in to it. Fail.

I started running and fifteen paces in felt quite good aside from my chest which felt a bit tight… then I felt the hip pain returning so I turned back. 0.25 miles! Not in the best of moods after that, I’d have thought it’d be alright after almost a week. I was wrong. It didn’t feel right for an hour or so afterwards but not overly painful.

So, what now? Not sure… Plan on giving it a rest until Saturday and try again then. Very frustrating – all I want to do is get out there!

In the meantime I’ve just purchased Born to Run: The Hidden Tribe, the Ultra-Runners… from Amazon which should arrive tomorrow has now arrived, so I’ll be mostly reading that.

Juneathon Day 9 – Pain

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Since Sunday’s run when I’ve got back home I’ve in pain in the hip/back area hence the last couple of runs being short… anyway though I’d run on grass tonight and it hasn’t helped… it’s agony!

I thought reducing the distance to a mile for a couple of days might have made a difference but it looks like it needs a rest.

Tomorrow has got to be a forced rest day :( Not at all what I want but I don’t want to do any serious damage. It might also give me a chance to get rid of this cough!  I’ll see how it feels on Friday and hopefully I can be back at it but my thoughts at this time need to be on the long term.

Will consider a walk tomorrow evening to keep me ticking over…

Juneathon Day 8 – One mile today

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

As I stated yesterday just one mile today to give my legs a bit of a rest… went at it a bit halfway through the run as it’s downhill which I feel sort of defeated the point!

Juneathon – Week One Summary

Monday, June 7th, 2010

The run tonight completed my first week of Juneathon. I’ve found it quite good fun so far -  it’s good to have a challenge to run every day  – keeps me motivated and if I’m ABLE to run then I can’t see myself missing a day.

Here are some stats from my first week:

Count: 7 Activities
Distance: 16.77 mi
Time: 02:40:30 h:m:s
Elevation Gain: 546 ft
Avg Speed: 6.3 mph
Calories: 2,681 C

Just to recap the goals I set myself for the Juneathon were to:

a) Run every day

Not been a problem so far although my legs are getting progressively achier after a run so I might have to do a couple of mile runs to give them a rest this week – I’ll see how I feel.

b) No alcohol! (* excluding England World Cup match days!)

Had a drink free weekend for the first time in what must be years… anyway… aside from the perfect “beer-garden weather” we had on Friday I’ve not been tempted! The World Cup kicks off on Friday with the first England game on Saturday so I’ll allow myself a couple of drinks.

All in all a good seven days – now looking forward to the next :)

Juneathon Day 7 – Another three!

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Another three miles this evening.

Tried to stick to ten minute miles as my legs have been a bit sore  post run and managed it pretty easily. I plan on doing a mile tomorrow to give them a bit of a break.
