Running Without My Inhaler – Mistake!

Friday, July 16th, 2010

You will obviously not know but I suffer from asthma – not overly serious as it only ever affects me when I do any exercise or hang around cats and dogs – but I avoid that.

I’d decided to go for a brisk two mile run last night as my legs were a bit stiff from my run on Monday. Immediately I realised I’d forgotten to take my usual inhaler puff before my run, “it’ll be fine… it’s only two miles” – wrong! I made it to the half-way point easily enough while noticing my breathing wasn’t as easy as usual but had to stop completely at 1.5 and walk back to the car gasping for air “nhuuurr nhhuuurrr hurrrr” .

I was fine once I’d got home… just a bit disappointed to have a failed run.

So yes, the moral of the story is: if I forget to use it… go back and do so!

Enjoying Running

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Have to say I did enjoy my run last night. Ended up parking a bit further up the road than I usually do for a bit of a change and completed the 3.8 mile circuit with me walking/warming down the last 0.3 miles.

Had to walk for a minute up at one stage as I was presented with a never-ending incline and I felt an ache at the top of my left leg. (The opposite side of the past hip pain)

Unfortunately I woke up with pain there in the night which made it difficult to sleep from 4.30 – 7.30.  I can still feel it now so it’s a case of day of rest which is frustrating. I’ll be waiting until the pain goes away, I guess. Hopefully I’ll be able to run on Wednesday/Thursday.

In other news this was my longest run so far.

Distance: 3.50 miles.
Time: 35.04

Hip hip okay! I begin again…

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Went out for my first run since my hip problems tonight. I’ve been meaning to since Thursday last week but had a bbq. weekend at my parents up north and poor time management the past couple of nights. (“I’ll go in the morning instead.. it’s too late now” – get up at 6am? as if!)

I was blowing a bit even after starting off slowly and completed 2.1 miles in 20 mins /4 secs.

The important thing is my hip feels alright… woohoo!

Not bad, will have a day of rest tomorrow and then back on it friday evening.

Bad Hip and Chest Infections

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Here’s a bit of an update as these pages have remained pretty silent since the 9th!

After my hip issues last week I decided to take a couple of days off. This increased to five days yesterday after a full blown chest infection decided to hit me and running and uncontrollable coughing don’t really mix well. So on Tuesday night with my lungs feeling better, although still with ‘a bit of a cough’ I decided to try a three miler to get myself back in to it. Fail.

I started running and fifteen paces in felt quite good aside from my chest which felt a bit tight… then I felt the hip pain returning so I turned back. 0.25 miles! Not in the best of moods after that, I’d have thought it’d be alright after almost a week. I was wrong. It didn’t feel right for an hour or so afterwards but not overly painful.

So, what now? Not sure… Plan on giving it a rest until Saturday and try again then. Very frustrating – all I want to do is get out there!

In the meantime I’ve just purchased Born to Run: The Hidden Tribe, the Ultra-Runners… from Amazon which should arrive tomorrow has now arrived, so I’ll be mostly reading that.
